As a manager Frontzeck has had spells in charge of Alemannia Aachen, Arminia Bielefeld, Borussia Mönchengladbach, FC St. Pauli, Hannover 96 and 1.

He was head coach of Alemannia Aachen from 13 September 2006[3] until the end of the season 2006–07 when he resigned due to the club's relegation.
