Michael James MacDonald

Michael James MacDonald (August 8, 1909[2] – July 3, 1997) was a union leader, coal miner, volunteer firefighter and politician in Nova Scotia.

[3] He then worked as a salesman for a bakery in Sydney, Nova Scotia, forming a union and becoming its president.

[3] MacDonald was also involved in the co-operative movement, helping to find the Reserves Mines Credit Union and serving as its vice-president.

He served as a member of the Reserve Mines Volunteer Fire Department for over 60 years having helped establish it in 1934.

He and CCF leader Russell Cunningham were the only two Opposition members in the legislature until the 1949 provincial election.
