He has worked on Smallville, Boomtown, The X-Files, and Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Monk, Law & Order, No Ordinary Family, Warehouse 13 and several other film and television series.

Watkins has won two Primetime Emmy Awards for his cinematography work on Quantum Leap.
