Officially opened in 1989 (having operated previously as an unlicensed station), its current studios are located on Clare Street, Ballyhaunis.
[2] When Midwest Radio first began broadcasting in 1989 its studios were located on Abbey Street, Ballyhaunis, County Mayo.
Over its twenty years on air the station's schedule hasn't changed dramatically with many of the original presenters still working for the company.
Its sister station NorthWest Radio shut down in 2004 having lost its broadcasting licence and was replaced by Ocean FM.
Like many local radio stations in Ireland, it mainly broadcasts country music and classic hits.
