[2] Vondran ran against Democratic incumbent Phyllis Thede for the 93rd district of the Iowa House of Representatives in 2020, but lost by over 1,900 votes.

[3][4] Vondran announced his candidacy for the then-newly drawn 94th district of the Iowa House in late 2021, shortly after decennial redistricting.

[5] He won the Republican primaries unopposed on June 7, 2022, and defeated incumbent Phyllis Thede by over 1,700 votes in the general election on November 8.

[8] He won the Republican primaries unopposed on June 4, 2024, and will face Democrat Tracy Jones in the general election on November 5, 2024.

[10][11] He has also served as chairman of Junior Achievement of the Heartland, president of the Mississippi Valley Fair Board, and director of the Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce.
