He has credits on more than thirty films, and has worked with leading names in Soviet cinema such as Mikhail Schweitzer, Tengiz Abuladze and Gleb Panfilov.

Mikhail Agranovich has repeatedly been awarded professional prizes and awards; his films Repentance and Mother received special prizes of the jury of the Cannes Film Festival.

In 2011, Agranovich was the chairman of the jury at the festival Window to Europe  [ru] in Vyborg.

[5] His third marriage, to the director and documentary screenwriter Alla Agranovich, produced a daughter Maria (born 1989).

In 2011, her debut film No problem won the prize for young filmmakers at the contest Kinotavr Short Meter.
