In June 1996, he was appointed an Ordinary Officer of the Civil Division of the Order of the British Empire, by the Queen of the Solomon Islands Elizabeth II, "for public service".
Upon his return to the Solomons, he entered politics, standing as an independent candidate in the North Vella Lavella constituency at the April 2006 general election.
[3] As Minister, he oversaw the Public Service Improvement Programme in coordination with the Australian-led Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands.
[4] He was returned to Parliament in the August 2010 general election, this time representing the People's Alliance Party.
[8] Tozaka retained his appointment as Foreign Minister following the replacement of Sogavare by Rick Houenipwela on 15 November 2017 and a subsequent cabinet reshuffle.
