Its highest point is the 1,030 m high Cresta de la Reina peak.
Other notable peaks are San Antón, Coronado, Monte Victoria and Gibralfaro.
The range is named after Málaga City[citation needed] located at its feet.
This mountain range extends between the Guadalhorce valley to the west and the Axarquía in the east.
To the north the Corredor de Periana valley separates it from the Cordillera Antequerana and to the south lies the Mediterranean Sea.
