She has received Andhra Pradesh state Nandi Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1987, for her role in the film Sirivennela.

Her father, of Ballygunge Place, was the son of one of the wealthiest businessmen of Kolkata, Adinath Sen.

She completed her graduation from Somerville College, Oxford and received her master's degree in Comparative Literature from Jadavpur University, Calcutta.
