[3][4][5] From 1840 to 1860, William Norris had a sheep station of 16,000 acres (6,500 ha) between the Oxley Creek and the Logan River which he called Mun Rubens which is believed to be derived from the Bundjalung language name for a local lagoon.

Formerly in the Shire of Beaudesert, Munruben became part of Logan City following the local government amalgamations in March 2008.
