[4] Munster Township is located east of the center of Cambria County around the coordinates 40.45 N by 78.7 W, about 5 miles (8 km) east of Ebensburg, the county seat, and 18 miles (29 km) west-southwest of Altoona.

U.S. Route 22, a four-lane expressway, crosses the center of the township from east to west, with one exit at the village of Munster.

The racial makeup of the township was 99.56% White, 0.15% African American, and 0.30% from two or more races.

18.5% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.5% had someone living alone who was sixty-five years of age or older.

Approximately 4.8% of families and 6.7% of the population were living below the poverty line, including 7.4% of those who were aged sixty-five or older.
