Myrtleford is part of the Alpine Shire local government area and in 2021 the town had a population of 3,285.
[1] The post office opened on 26 July 1858 as Myrtle Creek and was renamed Myrtleford in 1871.

[9] The rich soil of the region is known for its fresh local produce including vegetables, berries, nuts and olives.
[10] Myrtleford has a temperate climate with more rain in winter than in summer and a high diurnal range throughout the warmer half of the year.
