Nagomi, Kumamoto

Nagomi (和水町, Nagomi-machi) is a town located in Tamana District, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan.

After the Meiji restoration, the villages of Eta, Hanazuru, Kawazoe, Togo, Kamio, Midori, and Harutomi were established with the creation of the modern municipalities system on April 1, 1889.

Kamio, Midori, and Harutomi merged on April 1, 1955 to form the village of Mikawa, which was raised to town status on November 1, 1968.

Nagomi has a mayor-council form of government with a directly elected mayor and a unicameral city council of 12 members.

In terms of national politics, the town is part of the Kumamoto 2nd district of the lower house of the Diet of Japan.
