It is the governing party in Grenada, having won a majority in the 2022 general elections.

The party is led by current prime minister Dickon Mitchell as of October 2021.

It lost power to the NNP in the 1995 elections, which were held shortly after Brathwaite's resignation.

In the July 2008 general election, the NDC won 11 out of 15 seats, and party leader Tillman Thomas became prime minister.
