[1] The awards were created by music promoter Joe Graham and Sugarpop Records label executive Dennis Hennessey in 2011, and the first ceremony occurred in 2012.

The 2022 New England Music Awards were held at Six String Grill & Stage, on November 13th 2022, and were hosted by Adam Lopez and John Shea.
