The unincorporated communities of New Hope, Garfield, and Peru are located in the town.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 736 people, 278 households, and 219 families residing in the town.

There were 365 housing units at an average density of 10.2 per square mile (3.9/km2).

16.5% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
