Niantic is a village in Macon County, Illinois, United States.
In 1825, Joseph Strickling, a native of Ohio, first settled in what is now Niantic Township.
The township's population varied on settlers setting up temporary homes on their way to the American West.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Niantic has a total area of 1.04 square miles (2.69 km2), all land.
