The 48th Separate Assault Battalion named for Noman Çelebicihan, (Ukrainian: 48-й окремий штурмовий батальйон ім.

[3] The unit was first formed in 2016, by Crimean Tatar volunteers opposed to Russia's illegal annexation of Crimea, but was disbanded that same year.

The battalion emerged from participants in the 2015 activist-led blockade of Crimea that stopped Ukrainian cargo from reaching the Crimean peninsula.

[8] At the beginning of December 2024, the 48th Assault Battalion successfully dislodged Russian forces from the village of Novyi Komar, which they had occupied in an ongoing attempt to encircle the nearby town of Velyka Novosilka.

On January 18, servicemen of the battalion released an appeal to Oleksandr Syrskyi, in which they complained about the replacement of their commander and the lack of necessary intelligence information after the redeployment.
