It served the municipalities of Dovre, Lesja, Lom, Nord-Fron, Sel, Skjåk, and Vågå.
Its judicial duties were mainly to settle criminal cases and to resolve civil litigation as well as bankruptcy.
The administration and registration tasks of the court included death registration, issuing certain certificates, performing duties of a notary public, and officiating civil wedding ceremonies.
This court originally included Lesja, Lom, Fron, and Vågå.
From 1966-1977, Nord-Fron was part of the Sør-Gudbrandsdal District Court, but in 1977 it was moved back.
