It covers an area of 75 km2 (29 sq mi) and has a population of 3588 people (2023).
[2] Archeological remains indicate that the area was settled by Avars and early Hungarians.
The wars of the 17th century did not drive the village extinct, but its population fell dramatically.
From 1739 to 1740 there was an outbreak of the plague, which killed a total of 904 villagers.
