Oakham was a rural district in Rutland, England from 1894 to 1974, covering the north of the county.
The Local Government Act 1894 redesignated the area as Oakham Rural District, at the same time transferring the Leicestershire parishes of Cold Overton and Knossington to Melton Mowbray Rural District.
[1] The rural district consisted of the following parishes:[2] In its early years, the council met at the Oakham Union Workhouse on Ashwell Road and had its offices spread across various locations.
[3][4] The council continued to be based in Oakham even after the town was removed from the rural district in 1911.
In 1937 the council consolidated its offices and meeting place at Catmose House in Oakham, renting space there from Rutland County Council, who had recently bought the building and occupied the rest of it.
