The World Register of Marine Species lists these 23 genera:[1] Two fossil genera are also known: Styletoctopus from the Late Cretaceous (Cenomanian) of the Sannine Formation in Lebanon, and Bolcaoctopus from the Early Eocene (Ypresian) of Monte Bolca, Italy.
