It is Tulane's second-oldest football rivalry, one week younger than the Battle for the Rag.
[2][3] It is Ole Miss' oldest rivalry, predating its rivalries with Alabama, LSU, and Vanderbilt by a year, and Tulane is Ole Miss' most-played opponent not currently in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
[4] The first game took place on December 2, 1893, in New Orleans, and the two schools have continued to play each other with few interruptions since.
In 1956 #19 Tulane beat #6 Ole Miss 10–3 and in the 2023 contest #11 Ole Miss pulled away in the final minutes to beat #23 Tulane 37–20, in spite of trailing most of the game.
Tulane is now a member of the American Athletic Conference, while Ole Miss remains in the SEC.
