Otočec

Otočec (pronounced [ɔˈtoːtʃəts], German: Sankt Peter[2][3]) is a settlement on the left bank of the Krka River in the City Municipality of Novo Mesto in southeastern Slovenia.

The name was changed on the basis of the 1948 Law on Names of Settlements and Designations of Squares, Streets, and Buildings as part of efforts by Slovenia's postwar communist government to remove religious elements from toponyms.

[5][6][7] The local parish church is dedicated to Saint Peter and belongs to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Novo Mesto.

[10] The castle is built on a small island in the middle of the Krka River east of the main settlement of Otočec.

[11] It is also a member of Relais & Châteaux, which is a global fellowship of individually owned and operated luxury hotels and restaurants.
