Our Lady Help of Christians and St Helen's Church, Westcliff-on-Sea

She resided at Middleton Hall, Brentford in Essex [4] and was made a countess by Pope Pius IX in 1870.

She was the daughter and inheritor of businessman Joseph Tasker, of the United Mexican Mining Association.

In October 1869, after the nave, chancel and sacristy were completed, the church was opened by the Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Manning.

[3] As the remainder of the church had not been built, temporary screens were erected to block the view of the rest of the construction being undertaken.

Stokes went on to design a wing of the neighbouring convent, which later became St Bernard's High School.

The current parish priest is Fr Alex Poblador RCJ (Rogationists of the Heart of Jesus)[7]
