The department was founded in 1933 and refounded in 1948 after the Axis occupation.

Their home ground is PAOK Sports Arena.

PAOK made their first appearance in the top national division in the 1970–71 season.

The team won its first trophies claiming the Double in 2015 and debuted in the CEV Champions League the following season.
