In 2017, he was appointed the Secretary of Indian National Congress with charge of Karnataka state.

In January 2020, he was appointed the Vice President of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee.

He was re-elected for the second time in 2011 Kerala Legislative Assembly election defeating Adv.

In 2016 Kerala Legislative Assembly election he was defeated by Adv K. K. Ramachandran Nair of CPI(M) by a margin of 7983 votes.
