Paddy Tipping

Simon Patrick Tipping CBE (born 24 October 1949) is a British politician who served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Sherwood from 1992 to 2010.

In 1999 he was then promoted to Deputy Leader of the House of Commons,[1][2][3] and was appointed a Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Privy Council Office, where he was responsible for dealing with issues relating to the year 2000 computer date problem.

Following this, Tipping became Chairman of the sub-committee on Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in 2001 and, after a period on the backbenches, in 2006 he again served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Jack Straw.

On 23 October 2009, Tipping announced his decision to stand down at the next general election, following a period of ill health,[4][5][6] including a heart attack suffered in June 2009.
