The Palms is an apartment building located at 1001 East Jefferson Avenue in Detroit, Michigan.
It was one of the first buildings in the United States to use reinforced concrete as one of its major construction materials.
[1] The six-story apartment building was initially built as a high-class residence between 1901 and 1903 at a cost of about $80,000.
[2] The building is constructed in a "U" shape, with an exterior of solid masonry faced in limestone.
The original floor plans called for apartments that occupied an entire wing of the building, consisting of a double parlor in the front and a dining room with fireplace to the back separated by bedrooms, libraries, baths and more.
