Paloma, California

Paloma (Spanish for "dove"; formerly, Fosteria and Frenchman's Ranch[2]) is an unincorporated community in Calaveras County, California.

After yielding millions of dollars in gold, the Gwin Mine closed in 1908.

[3] The town's post office operated from 1903 to 1918, when the name was Fosteria - from the Foster family, early pioneers.

[2] In the state legislature, Paloma is in the 8th Senate District, represented by Democrat Angelique Ashby,[4] and the 5th Assembly District, represented by Republican Joe Patterson.

[5] Federally, Paloma is in California's 4th congressional district, represented by Democrat Mike Thompson.
