Roby was introduced as the ninth athletic director of the university in June 2007 and retired in February 2018.
Before joining Harvard, Roby was an assistant coach at Stanford University, Dartmouth College, his alma mater, and the U.S. Military Academy.
[citation needed] In 2002, Roby was hired to lead Northeastern University's Center for the Study of Sport in Society.
[2] In that role Roby, became an expert about bringing "positive social change through research, education and advocacy."
In 2010, Roby received the first annual Richard Lapchick Sport and Social Justice Innovation Award.
