At club he played with Holycross–Ballycahill, Boherlahan–Dualla and Moycarkey-Borris, and also lined out at inter-county level with the Tipperary senior hurling team.
Cahill ended his career with the Moycarkey-Borris club, with whom he won back-to-back Tipperary SHC titles in 1932 and 1933.
[2] At inter-county level, Cahill earned selection to the Tipperary senior hurling team in 1922.
Cahill regained his place in 1924 and claimed his first Munster SHC medal that year.
Cahill lined out at wing-forward when Tipperary beat Dublin in the 1930 All-Ireland final.
