Philip Roche (c. 1693–1723) was an Irish pirate active in the seas of northern Europe, best known for murdering the crews and captains of ships he and his men took over.
[2] In November 1721 Roche and three associates booked passage on a French vessel sailing to Nantes.
Roche was charismatic and had knowledge of seafaring, and convinced the ship's master to let him handle the vessel.
[1] At a signal they rose up, slaughtered the French crew, and threw the captain overboard.
[1] At a French port they heard rumors about their own exploits and quickly put to sea, sailing to Scotland where they quietly dispersed.
