[4] Another brother, Henry C. Magruder, was prominent in the Presbyterian Church at Prairie Grove, Arkansas.
[5] Magruder studied at the Woodstock Academy and Minor's School in Albemarle, before reading law the University of Virginia.
[2] After his studies, he entered the Confederate States Army as a Corporal in the 10th Virginia Infantry, being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.
[6] In 1887, he was chosen as the Democratic candidate for Shenandoah in the Virginia House of Delegates, and held the post for several years.
They had five daughters (Ella, Lucy, Sue, Annie, and another) and two sons (Mark W. and Philip).
