[13][14] One of her ships, Iuventa, was seized by Italian authorities in 2017,[15] who accused her of cooperating with human traffickers, and claimed many of those saved were at no imminent risk of death.

[40] According to The Guardian, Klemp accepted the offer of street artist and activist Banksy to command the NGO vessel Louise Michel, which departed for its first mission in late August 2020.
[41] On 13 January 2017, Michael Steinbrecher [de] hosted Klemp and other guests in his Nachtcafé 90-minute talkshow at Südwestrundfunk (SWR) discussing her marine life conservation and anti-whaling activities with Sea Shepherd.
[36][37][38] In 2019, Henning May, the singer of the German rock band AnnenMayKantereit, wrote a song Ein Mensch mehr auf dem Meer (English: "One more human at sea") about Pia Klemp.
