The single sat at number one on the US Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart for more than six weeks.

Rolling Stone listed "Please Don't Go" among the 100 best R&B songs of the 21st century, commenting that on the song "[Tank] delivers a sensual performance as he dresses himself down for his infidelities, asking all men to do better.
