Pompaples

Pompaples is a municipality in Switzerland in the canton of Vaud, located in the district of Morges.

[3] Pompaples has an area, as of 2009[update], of 4.45 square kilometers (1.72 sq mi).

Of the rest of the land, 0.42 km2 (0.16 sq mi) or 9.4% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.03 km2 (7.4 acres) or 0.7% is either rivers or lakes and 0.02 km2 (4.9 acres) or 0.4% is unproductive land.

The blazon of the municipal coat of arms is Per fess Vert and Gules, overall a tongs and hammer in saltire Or.

[9] Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks French (685 or 90.0%), with Portuguese being second most common (19 or 2.5%) and German being third (18 or 2.4%).

The total Swiss population change in 2008 (from all sources, including moves across municipal borders) was a decrease of 2 and the non-Swiss population decreased by 8 people.

[8] The age distribution, as of 2009[update], in Pompaples is; 100 children or 13.1% of the population are between 0 and 9 years old and 94 teenagers or 12.3% are between 10 and 19.

[9] The historical population is given in the following chart:[3][13] In the 2007 federal election the most popular party was the SP which received 27.72% of the vote.

In the federal election, a total of 179 votes were cast, and the voter turnout was 37.8%.

[9] There were 360 residents of the municipality who were employed in some capacity, of which females made up 48.1% of the workforce.

In 2008[update] the total number of full-time equivalent jobs was 457.

In the tertiary sector; 21 or 5.0% were in wholesale or retail sales or the repair of motor vehicles, 3 or 0.7% were in the movement and storage of goods, 1 was in a hotel or restaurant, 1 was a technical professional or scientist, 19 or 4.5% were in education and 356 or 85.2% were in health care.

[9] From the 2000 census[update], 158 or 20.8% were Roman Catholic, while 417 or 54.8% belonged to the Swiss Reformed Church.

In the Vaud cantonal school system, two years of non-obligatory pre-school are provided by the political districts.

[17] During the school year, the political district provided pre-school care for a total of 631 children of which 203 children (32.2%) received subsidized pre-school care.

The canton's primary school program requires students to attend for four years.
