[1][2] The previous leader, Fumio Kishida announced his resignation on 14 August 2024, thereby not seeking reelection.

[3][4] Due to the dominance of the LDP in Japanese politics, all twenty-four presidents except two (Yohei Kono and Sadakazu Tanigaki) have also been the prime minister of Japan.

[7] According to Article 81 of the LDP Constitution, the president's term of office is three years, renewable twice consecutively.

[9] The president appoints the secretary-general, members of Finance Committee, and the director of the Forward Policy Study Unit, all with the approval of the General Council.
