Narrated by Benito Pérez Galdós,[1] a young journalist at the time the events take place, the fiction accounts for the political intrigues and conspiracies in the last year of the life of General Prim, prime minister of Spain, who had to find a suitable candidate to the country's throne.

Prim's carriage was shot in the Calle del Turco [es] on 28 December 1870.

A Televisión Española co-production together with Shine Iberia, Televisió de Catalunya and Dream Team Concept,[10][11] the TV movie was written by Nacho Faerna and Virginia Yagüe and directed by Miguel Bardem.
