The 2020 census found 8,163 people in the township.
[3] Located in the eastern part of the county along the Ohio River, it borders the following townships: West Virginia lies across the Ohio River to the east: Ohio County to the northeast, and Marshall County to the southeast.
[5] In 1833, Pultney Township contained one or two stores, four flouring mills, three or four gristmills, several saw mills, and a woolen factory.
[6] The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1.
There is also an elected township fiscal officer,[7] who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election.
