[1] The mall extends approximately 500 metres (1,600 ft) from George Street to Edward Street, and has more than 700 retailers over 40,000 square metres (430,000 sq ft) of retail space, which includes six major shopping centres.
The mall was designed by Robin Gibson and opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1982.
It features several shopping malls, a steel structure for shade and an entertainment stage.
After being closed to traffic in 1981,[2] the initial pedestrian mall was opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 9 August 1982,[3] in order to be ready for the Brisbane Commonwealth Games.
[6] An entertainment stage for music, model shows, and other performances is situated near the George Street end of the mall, between Uptown and the Queen Adelaide Building.
[11] The Wintergarden is a three level shopping centre with over 70 specialty stores including a gymnasium, ten pin bowling alley, luxury Hilton hotel, H&M, Zara, Uniqlo and R. M.
It features 130 stores spread across 6 floors including Coles, Target and Event Cinemas.
[11] Not long after Myer departure, co-owner Vicinity Centres chief executive Peter Huddle revealed plans for the sites future.
[12] In March 2023, MYER, Millanos and Pig & Whistle were evicted to allow for preparation works for redevelopment of Uptown and the Queen Street Mall.
