Rajiv–Longowal Accord

The government accepted the demands of Shiromani Akali Dal, which, in turn, agreed to withdraw its agitation.

[1] The following were the provisions of the accord:[2]: 108 (Earlier, on 14 March 1974, the defence minister Jagjivan Ram had announced that the recruitment from Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh would be reduced as they were heavily and disproportionately represented in the Army.

[2]: 127 ) It also stated that the above allocated shares may be increased or decreased in case of fluctuations in the river water availability.

On 26 July, Longowal announced that the accord had been unanimously approved by a congregation of former MPs, MLAs, ministers and jathedars.
