It is one of the two churches for the Randaberg parish which is part of the Tungenes prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Stavanger.
The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1845 using designs by the architect Hans Linstow.
The original church sat just east of the 73-metre (240 ft) tall Randabergfjellet mountain, a notable geographic feature in the municipality.
During the 1600s, the old church was torn down and replaced with a new timber-framed building.
[3] In 1845, a new church was built about 2.35 kilometres (1.46 mi) to the south in what is now the village of Randaberg.
