Rapa, Poland

Rapa ([ˈrapa]) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Banie Mazurskie, within Gołdap County, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in northern Poland, close to the border with the Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia.

In the past, the region was at various times part of Poland, Prussia and Germany.

In 1750, the owner Jacob John Hoffmann built a palace, taken in 1793 by Johann Friedrich Wilhelm von Fahrenheid.

In 1811, a mausoleum was built in Rapa for the Fahrenheid family, designed by sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen.

The building is shaped like a pyramid with a height of 15.9 metres (52 ft) and is loosely inspired by the architecture of ancient Egypt.
