His recordings span a wide range of British cello concertos, with works by MacMillan, Finzi, Delius, Walton, Bax, Bliss, Britten, Moeran, Coke, and Leighton.
He has three children, Benjamin (a conductor and Hollywood composer), Simon (baritone and cellist), and Joanna (a vocalist).
