The channel launched on 1 January 2005, replacing the Australian feed of TechTV; it was the first version of C+I worldwide, with the American flagship launching three months later..[1] From that date, until 31 July 2024, the programming and name of Crime + Investigation were licensed to Foxtel by A&E Television Networks.

The content is mostly sourced from overseas except for limited original content such as the popular Crime Investigation Australia hosted by Steve Liebmann focusing on infamous Australian crimes.
