Robert Whitridge Estill (September 7, 1927 – October 9, 2019)[1] was an American prelate who served as the ninth Bishop of North Carolina from 1983 till 1994.
In 1969 he became rector of St Alban's Church in Washington D.C. and in 1973 he became director of the Center for Continuing Education in the Virginia Theological Seminary.
Estill was elected Bishop Coadjutor of the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina on November 2, 1979.
[2] He was consecrated on March 15, 1980, by presiding Bishop John Allin in Duke Chapel.
During his episcopacy he worked to strengthen the role of deacons in the diocese and support the ordination of female clergy.
