The 26th European Athletics Championships were held from 7 to 12 June 2024 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Italy.

Thus, the city and the venue hosted the event for the second time after 50 years.

Stadio Olimpico staged also the 1960 Olympic Games and 1987 World Championships in Athletics.

On 10 November 2020, the European Athletic Association (EAA) chose Rome at its 160th Council Meeting held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

[6] As a result of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, athletes from Russia and Belarus were banned from competing at the 2024 European Championships.
