He was the head football coach for Ricks College—now known as Brigham Young University–Idaho—from 1982 to 2001 and Dixie State University—now known as Utah Tech University—from 2006 to 2009.
In 1966, Haun earned a master's degree from Brigham Young University (BYU).
From 1966 to 1974 he taught physical education and coached football, basketball, and tennis, at Skyline High School in Millcreek, Utah.
