He is considered one of the greatest high school sprinters in American history,[1][2][3] and at the height of his career, he competed for the United States at the 1988 Summer Olympics.
Martin was named Male Prep Athlete of the Year by Track & Field News in 1984 and in 1985 and was ranked #3 in the world at 200 meters as a high school senior.
[7] As a college freshman, Martin helped Southern Methodist University win the 1986 NCAA track and field championship with a 43.5-second relay carry that propelled the Mustangs to a dramatic victory.
Under Kersee's tutelage, Martin regained his form and competed for the United States in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, where he finished sixth in the 200 meter dash semifinals.
Martin has worked as a long-haul truck driver and has held positions as a track coach in the Dallas Independent School District and at Paul Quinn College.
